Dream beach in the flight path
Phuket has a bad reputation when a quiet, family-friendly beachfront location is sought. You know Patong Beach and Karon Beach, but Naiyang Beach, on the other hand, is almost unknown. For us, the beautiful and quiet beach at Phuket Airport was the ideal start of our world travel. For this reason, we extended the booked three nights by two nights.
Luckily, we are in default with our blog and are writing this article now. We were now in Thailand for three months and in Cambodia for a month. So we have a comparison in terms of accommodation, food and prices. After many beaches, islands and accommodation, we still like to think back to Naiyang Beach. Many things, such as the friendliness of the people, the cheap and good food and the clean accommodation, we appreciate it more today.
Bathing in the flight path
Naiyang Beach is located right next to Phuket Airport and you can sometimes see the planes arriving every minute. Nevertheless, it took us three days to notice the proximity of the airport at all, because the waves swallow the aircraft noise without any problems. In our 10-minute walk away, the planes could not be heard.
Going bathing directly in the flight lane is a bit louder, of course, but for that the big fliers give you the extra bathing fun. We didn’t give it a go and preferred to lie down around the corner, where it was quieter and also shadier. You burn here very quickly in the sun and we wanted to do without sunscreen first.
Beautiful bathing beach, the lonely Naiyang Beach
Naiyang Beach is beautiful, very clean and surprisingly empty. The turquoise blue water has pleasant bathing temperature. You can walk out far on the slightly coarser sand and swim perfectly at Naiyang Beach.
On some stretches of beach you are alone for a longer time. The front area of the beach is right at the flight lane to Phuket Airport. Despite aircraft noise, there is often more to go than a bit further, where the waves are the only soundscape. Some time we spent there alone in a beautiful shade place. It’s only in the back area, where some nice beach restaurants and a handful of resorts can be found.
Clean and family-friendly beach
The cleanliness is not by chance, firstly Naiyang Beach belongs to Sirinat National Park and secondly there are regular cleaning activities in which washed up beach goods and above all lying remains are collected. We were very happy to get involved in it. If you want to find out more, you can find current actions in the Green Nai Yang Group on Facebook.
The beach is family-friendly, after all, there is no holiday mile like the one on Patong Beach. However, there are a lot of peaceful beach dogs that sometimes don’t want to be disturbed at their siesta.
Street kitchen and breakfast soup
The restaurants right on the beach were a bit too expensive for us backpackers, for two dishes and two water you are pay about 10-15 Euros. We preferred to walk a few hundred meters the Thep Krasat Tri-Nai Yang Road into the Muslim foretale Ban Wong Li, because everything costs half and tastes delicious. Pleasant side effect: You support small food kitchens and local families instead of large resorts or investment groups. Something we’ve worked out in our Travel Codex.
The Khao Tom Soup in vegan version without meat, fish or egg costs only a sensational 10 Baht (about 30 Cents). With some mango sticky rice for dessert we payed 5 Baht. The breakfast lasts all day. Once we had each two soups, but then we really reached the filling limit.
Water and all possibilities for seasoning are on the table, as we are now know from good street kitchens. By the way, the breakfast offer applies to early risers from 5:30 am and ends in the late morning for late risers. If you want to be sure, you prefer to go before 10 am.
When the soup sells out, it’s quiet in Ban Wong Li. By lunchtime, all of Ban Wong Li rests. From the afternoon to the late evening hours you will find good street kitchens with Pad Thai and fried rice, both without fish and egg for 50 Baht (about 1.50 Euros) and Roti with banana, the typical Thai pancake for 40 Baht. At the fruit stalls you get an arm full of bananas, 1 pound of dragon fruit, 1 pound of passion fruit and a mango for 100 Baht. More about Thai fruits by the way soon here in the blog.
By the way, we also did our laundry for the first time in Ban Wong Li. We don’t have much with us, as you will soon see on our packing list. The laundry self-service cost 20 Baht, the liquid detergent 10 Baht so just under one Euro together. We could hang the laundry in our accommodation the Baan Rom Pruk. Comfortable accommodation with very friendly hosts. We would also be happy to recommend the Baan Rom Pruk. In our article Start in Thailand there are some pictures and information about the bungalows.
The first pictures and videos
At Naiyang Beach, we also tested most of our equipment for the first time. We had only been given a lot of the technical equipment in the short term. We were particularly excited about the Sony Alpha 7 S II with the engine zoom and the GoPro Fusion 360 degree camera. You can already see the first pictures. The videos are coming soon.
When we came off the beach on Wednesday, the road was inanimously busy. A few hundred metres from the beach, we realised why so many cars and moppeds are on the way. It’s market. The market at Naiyang Beach is not huge and the vegetarian or vegan possibilities are very limited there, but at least we were able to stock up on fruit cheaply. For the kilo yellow mangoes 80 Baht was of course a dream for us. Meanwhile, we’ve become accustomed to eating pineapple, mango and coconut daily.
By the way, the market is always on Wednesdays and Fridays evenings, on all other days there is only a single stand with some fruit. For more choice, you have to go to Ban Wong Li.
The drive to Phuket City
It was also our host who brought us to Phuket City for 500 Baht. That’s fair. At the airport you pay between 600 and 800 Baht. She took us straight to our next accommodation and she was shocked about we accommodation we booked in Phuket City. You will also make eyes in the next article.
